Our vacation didn't go exactly as planned, but I was in such a desperate state for some "getaway time" that it didn't seemed to matter. I had fun as did Jon and the girls.
It started with a campground nearly full due to reserved sites (I DID call about reservations, and was told they only had first come first serve sites... from talking with other campers I found I wasn't the only one who was misinformed about reservable sites) We were able to get 1 site for the first night, and the had to stay on watch for another site to open up and snag it before someone else did. Luckily it worked out and we only had to move sites once, unfortunately the first day of vacation seemed wasted because we couldn't set up camp and get settled in.
Next issue was that "Downtown" was alot further than I anticipated. By looking at a map I assumed (yes, I DO know what you get when you assume something LOL lesson learned) that downtown Hot Springs would only be a few minutes from out campground. Instead it was a 30 minute drive down a long windy mountain road. It wasn't a major deal, but did put a small damper on our schedule and resulted in us not getting to do everything we planned.
Gas was outrageously priced, which made it difficult to keep filling up the jetskis and limited our time on the water.
I also came down with strep throat two days before we left, but was able to get antibiotics and felt pretty good by day one of our vacation... until.... the antibiotics caused me a Y infection (come on ladies, you know what I'm talking about.. the dreaded "y" infection, down there)... which was totally not fun while camping.
Magic Springs/Crystal Falls amusement and water park was a huge bummer! After spending 150$ on tickets, we still had to pay 10$ for parking and 10$ for a locker, only to find out there were numerous rides closed down, and the rides that were open were so incredibly disorganized it was barely worth riding. For instance "complimentary floats" were given for each of the water slides. You stood in line and waited for someone to come down the slide and pass there tube along. Only they wouldn't pass there tube along. They would rudely take there tube and ride again and again. No one was there to stop this from happening therefore making it impossible to wait in the lines for the slides. In the end we rode 1 roller coaster (in which I never opened my eyes and am pretty sure I didn't breath through 90% of), 2 water slides and floated down the lazy river once before deciding to leave. We couldn't even bring ourselves to wait around for the Craig Morgan concert.
Saturday night big storms came through (im a big huge scardy cat of storms, ex specially when i'm sleeeping in a tent surrounded by giant trees) and the weather channel was predicting even bigger storms for the following night. We all discussed it and agreed to come home a night early.
The vacation wasn't a complete disaster. We did get to enjoy the gorgeous views and huge lake. We had an adventurous trail ride on horseback. We watched a great fireworks show and all in all spent lots and lots of quality time just goofing off and enjoying our time away from the stress of everyday life.
I did not get near as many pictures as I wanted to, and I still need to develope the water cameras and get the pictures of the girls cameras... but here are a few of my favorites from my camera. Enjoy.
Vista Lookout
My Handsome Hubbz!
Oh yes, we had AC for the tent.. and It was a lifesaver.
More to come later this week....
